I have reopened my A/C and Electrical business. Call me if you need service or advice. (504) 338-2167. I'll work with you and wait for insurance as much as I can aford I may also be able let you put materials on your credit card and charge you minimal other expences as I am financially able. I believe a red cross card can be used at home depot.
Here's a little advice for if your house flooded or took in rain water:
Electrical wiring:
If only recepticals went under water remove covers and make sure its dry, then power can be turned on. They may not work if they are coroded though. Try repeatedly pluging and unpluging something to remove it. Plan on replacing them as soon as posible . If they don't make a good connection (apliuance goes on and of) don't use it since it could cause heating up. Check if they're getting warm after several min. of use and don't use them if they get warm.
DO NOT USE A GAS DRYER RANGE OR WATER HEATER IF THE GAS VALVE FLOODED UNTILL THE VALVE IS TESTED!
Centeral A/C:
Compresors are sealed, but the cover were the wires enter should be removed to air it out. The compresor is the large steel part inside at the bottom the outside unit. If the water went high enough to get into the fan moter it may need to be replaced. try it and see. If it did get damaged you can't make it worse. make sure and monitor it closely for the first few minuits and several times the first day since a famn motor failure could damage the compresor if left on. make sure the compresor doesn't run without the fan (you will hear it huming and the smaller of the 2 coper lines will get warm, hot if it keeps runing without the fan). If water got into the controle box (were the wires enter the unit, open it up for a day and let it dry out
Apliances:
Most apliances will be OK after they dry out. Give them a couple of days. If a fridge got enough water for the insulation to be wet, wait several days because there are heaters in some areas of the cabenet to prevent sweating and the insulation must be dry. washing machines should be ok after a day or so to dry our. Any apliance could fail latter from corosinion, so don't stock up freazers or figes for a couple of weeks
Breaker boxes:
Breakers thgat flooded must be replaced
Fuse boxes: Fise boxes will dry out OK, but fuses must be replaced. Screw in fuses should be ok if they didn't actually go under, look closely for water or dampness inside the window. Cartrage fuses (tube shaped ones that snap in a black pull put or into spring clips) should be replaced if they got more than just sightly wet.
