Well, I wish I could say it was better than we expected, but it wasn't. The roller coaster of emotions is overwhelming for me who normally cries at a Hallmark commercial. We listened to WWL radio on the way in and they did prep us. The biggest praise is that my house and my parents house did not get any inside water. We could tell it lapped at the doorsteps, but none inside, Praise God! My parents had a lot of roof and siding damage. Most of their tree damage was done by TS Cindy (not me) last month, so there were no trees or branches on their roof. Wish I could say the same for mine. We have 6 pine trees on our lot, (before we went in I could only remember 5). Well 2 crossed each other and made an "X" on the front of the house/roof. The other one in the front yard is uprooted. Middle one in the back crashed and demolished my back fence. The one I was sure would come down, didn't, and the other one lost a lot of branches. It was all so eerie. Most all trees in the neighborhood (North Airline Park) were uprooted along with the closest sidewalk or driveway it connected. You could easily fit a car in most of the holes.
When I walked in and saw that we had been spared, I lost it because it looked like we had just left for the weekend, and all I could think of was my Chalmette family who will never get their pictures or stuff. And I am very thankful that they are safe, but it's still sad. The news cautioned us on feeling guilty and that's just how I felt, even though I know that they are happy for us. At least we have stuff to share. One thing I am very concerned for is the looting. I'm close to Transcontinental and they have already been looted. Pray that our "stuff" will be spared to help those in need. Didn't take much back for lack of space. But will try to go back later in week with bigger vehicle.
Will keep you posted.
