So, I guess I'll just keep posting until someone else does ... since I'm noticing that the posts are being viewed just not replied to. We went to Faith Baptist Church in Pinson, AL this morning. These are the people who have brought meals, groceries, paper supplies, etc. all last week for us. This morning, we brought home a mattress for Sam (so Zach can get in the packnplay instead of sleeping on the floor where Sam finds him and plops down right by his head and wakes him up! ) Oh, and we got a bag of clothes for Zach .... he's busting out of the size that i brought for him, so ... hooray, he'll have clothes that fit. We were given cash and a gift card ... and the pastor asked them to consider more of what they could do this week. We're so grateful ... Doug was able to share on behalf of Berean .... awesome stuff. So, how was church for you?

We went to First Baptist in Houston to try to hear Beth Moore - she was out of town and they had a guest speaker BUT the pastor is the old pastor from Breakaway at A & M... which a cool blast from our college past! (we're NOT Aggies, but we used to drive there just for breakaway... ahh the college days!) But the sermon was really awesome... the Hurricane of life on 1 Corinthians 1:3-11... good stuff and we needed the worship and encouragement. The church is HUGE and they have sooo many resources. They have commited to feed the thousands of evacuees in the George R Brown convention center for the next MONTH. They are recruiting 1,000 volunteers to feed the people there. It was amazing. They had a free BBQ lunch for us after church ("us" being evacuees.) Everyone who came up to us, asking if we needed anything. It was awesome and humbling.

We had a special message this morning on Hilarious giving. A special collection was taken for Hurricane relief. It is being divided into three catagories - Samaritians Purse, feed the children and Berean. We had a time of prayer where the entire concregation got on their knees and prayed out loud. Not one at a time but everyone praying out loud what was on their heart at the same time. Pastor said don't worry about what your neighbor is saying, pray to the Lord. It was AWESOME!!!
Several people want to know how to help. If you need clothes, school supplies, food - PLEASE let me know. Things are being collected, families want to help with donations and would love to adopt families to assist.

We attended a very old fashioned, traditional Baptist church in Alexandria with the girl (our Katrina angel!) who has been letting us live in her house this past week. It was a bit "stiff" with only organ music and hymns. No "praise" music - not that hymns aren't praise but well, you know what I mean...... "modern" praise music. The kids weren't too excited about it at all. They have never been in a church like that. I didn't understand a lot of the message as they did not have a very good ALD for me. But I was thankful they had one at all, and we were touched by the prayers and concern for the hurricane victims.
When Aaron went to college up here in Pineville, he had a very hard time finding a church to settle down in. Jim came to this one with him on several occasions, but I remember going to a different church the last couple of times we were here visiting Aaron or fleeing a storm.
We'll be in Katy, TX next Sunday. I have been to my sisters church many times, and I do like it. I can't recall the name of it right now... The man in charge of the whole food distribution program in the Astrodome is a member. My sister and her husband (and the church) will be helping in there. They have collected clothes for the victims too. Depending on what Jim find at the house, we may need some of them. Hopefully we won't, and they can be used by some of the other needy families.
Kathy, which Daspits were there? Eileen? Margie & Larry?
Crystal, are you guys going to go back to check out the house soon? When? Maybe we should start another topic for that - when are you going back to see what Katrina did?

We went to my Aunt's church - Covenant Church of Atlanta. I went there with my Aunt's family this past summer when I was living in Atlanta and Joe was in DC. So it wasn't a new place for us - as usual, I was thoroughly blessed by the service. I was especially ministered to by the music worship - we sang "Blessed be the Name of the Lord" (Matt and Beth Redman) - man, the lyrics to that song have never hit me the way they did at that service. There was another couple there from New Orleans who was staying with family at the church as well. We also ate lunch with my Aunt's family and the ladies there invited me to join their bible study that just started last week - Beth Moore's _The Patriarchs_. I think will try to do that, since when I asked if I could bring Shannon, the leader's teenage daughter got very excited offering to play with her during the study. Teenage girls rock!
