That is merely a very short list of the things I missed. I have lots of items I wished I would have brought, all of them irreplaceable. The Marine Corps is not allowing any of us back into the New Orleans area until further word; regardless of what city officials say. I hope looters didn't tear up anyones homes.

Crystal- Being the good secretary I am I brought my Berean directory-from home not the office- that is the one I wish I had- we even stopped by the church office on our way out of town to "borrow" the walkie-talkies for the 5 hour ride out of town to Ruston- Did I say 5 hours I mean 15 hours- silly me Seriously -I wish we had a church evacuation plan and we could have all gone together- There is alot of land in Ruston. Maybe building an evacuation shelter is something we could look into Love and miss you all

Way to go, Julie ... you're right, the one from church would have been better! And, Margaret ... I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgot my Bible .... We really felt like we were working with half a brain as we got packed up .... I did bring a cooler full of frig/freezer stuff to help with the food issue once we got here, but still left some frozen catfish in the freezer (I figured since it went through our power out during TS Cindy -- it wasn't worth it!).

Oh, how I WISH I had cleaned out our fridge. I don't even want to think about what we'll find in it when we get back - who knows when they'll let Orleans Parish people back in. I did take out the kitchen trash, at least. I wish I had brought more clothes - we have 2 days worth of clothes for each person. I am missing my comfy terry cloth robe, too. I wish I had brought Shannon's plastic bibs and my entire diaper stash. Oh, and the cell phone charger (DUH! luckily my mom-in-law has the same phone). I've so thankful that we brought Joe's laptop with all his dissertation stuff, Shannon's portable high chair, and my bible. Gotta count my blessings or I'll start feeling all pitiful...

My memory! I've often been known for never losing things or forgetting things. Well, surely I left it behind. I have managed to lose not one, but two sets of keys, forgot to add the directory and my check book box with extra checks to my list of things to get on re-entry. If it's not written down, I can't remember. How many times have you walked into the next room to go get something and can't remember what it was? Well, that's happening way too often.

Hey Melissa - I Saw the pictures Sara had posted. WOW! I guess we won't be having Bonko on the back patio! Glad to hear you guys are alright. I had planned on going home this weekend to grab some stuff but like you, RITA put a stop to that. Arlo will probably return to us in Bham. Please give my love to your family and we hope to see all of you soon. Love, Toni

Perhaps you could be in prayer for those of us in Houston who are evacuating now as well since you know first-hand what this is all about. We had written to many of you telling you of our home there that you could use if needed as we are in Canada temporarily, and in addition to that, another family from our church there that would have housed you as well. Now, I understand why no one ended up using our home - because you would all have to leave again! We had four different families that were going to come and then something happened, and they couldn't! Paul and I are in Fort McMurray, Canada and have reservations this Friday (9/23) to go home and meet our older son there to take care of things and help out for three days, in addition to attending a seminar given by our Pastor's wife from Singapore. (A note here - David and Lana Packer now pastor a church in Marshall, TX - she authored a Bible Study called "Women Making a Difference in Marriage" if Berean is ever looking for an eight week study - it's very good. Since everything has been canceled, we are praying about canceling our flights now since so many are leaving that area. Our church there has closed for five days. Your postings about what you wish you had brought are wonderful and I have been able to share your info with some of those right now in Houston leaving. Thank you. Also, I have some friends who have just relocated to Baton Rouge and I was able to tell them about Community Bible Church... again, thank you. AND, while Paul and I have been in Canada, I have been able to spend much more time in prayer for all of you there. So many ways God is working that we do not all see. I wanted you to know that you are still being used in our lives and that we are still happy to pray and know how all of you are doing. Thank you for your example of persevering and moving forward in spite of difficult circumstances. "Home" is the will of God for the child of God, isn't it? We can be at 'home' anywhere because we are at home in Him. Doug, thanks for this site - you were a lot younger when we were there! Thanks...... Vicki Ellingsen (for Paul, Mike (21) and Tim (18) too

What I wish I had brought - I left the kids' birth certificates and SS cards. I sure wish I had brought more clothes for us (I have hit Target along the way, Walmart, Pennys and thrift shops here and people have given us winter clothes). Speaking of clothes, if it werent such an odd size I would have brought my Flip Fold! It makes it so much easier to get more clothes into drawers! I didnt bring my Berean directory either <sigh>
