I don't know about you, but I am chomping at the bit to begin restoring our homes. We want take the first steps towards normalcy...so this weekend on Friday and Saturday (September 16& 17) we are organizing a chainsaw brigade to starting cutting up the fallen trees in people's lawns. We also plan on tarping roofs while we are there.
We are going to try to get as many people together from the Baton Rouge area to join us so that we go as many houses as possible. If you can come, bring whatever supplies you can get your hands on. We will try to locate as much supplies as possible here in Baton Rouge. We will provide more details later this week, but I can tell you that we will meet here in Baton Rouge, drive into the city for the day and then come back around nightfall. We are not planning on spending Friday night in New Orleans.
If you are evacuated to another city and want to join us for the weekend in Baton Rouge. Let me know, I will be happy to find a place for you to stay in Baton Rouge for a couple of nights.
Please contact me (at 504-975-7570) to let me know if you can join us.

We have firmed up some more details concerning the Chainsaw Brigade this Friday & Saturday. Here are some details: - According to Ray Nagin's press confernce about an hour ago, we won't need work permits. The dry parts of Orleans will be open like Jefferson for people to come in and work on their property in the next day or two. If you haven't come home yet, this would be a great chance to see your house for the first time with a whole bunch of friends who want to help you clean up!
- We will meet at 7am in the parking lot of Community Bible Church in Baton Rouge. We will squeeze into as little number of vehicles as possible. This will be on both mornings...although...
- If you can come both days, we would like as many people as possible to spend the night in Algiers. Sounds like most houses already have power. We'll find a place to put you up. Just bring clothes, toiletries, etc.
- If you can only come one day...that's great! We'll make sure that you get out of New Orleans before the curfew is in effect.
- At a minimum, be sure to bring some work gloves. Bring a chainsaw if you have one. If you don't...that's okay. We should have more than enough stuff for you to do between moving wood and tarping roofs. Speaking of tarping roofs, some tarps would be helpful as well...
- Don't worry about food. It will be taken care of.
- Please RSVP to Doug ASAP. You can call at 505-975-7570 or email at dcdaspit@cox.net OR just post a reply to this message! We need to know how many people so that we can get the right amount of food.
- If you know there is a tree in your yard or that your roof needs to be tarped, contact Doug. He can be sure you are on the list.
Thanks!

Hey Doug and fellow Bereanites and friends of Berean. Melissa and I are planning on driving into Luling on Friday evening. We will be staying with some old friends, the Stewarts, and will be at our house in Algiers on Saturday morning. My roof does have some leaks in it. I have some tarps in my shed, some spare shingles, hammers, nails, etc. that anyone is welcomed to use (provided they are still there). I will need to work on my house first and then Melissa and I would be willing to help with others for as long as time premits. I appreciate Doug organizing this.

If electricity is avialable at the church, what is the possibility of "camping out" at the church on Friday night?
What is the availability of gasoline in the area of Algiers?
I have roof damage and will need a temporary patch to cover the hole left by the loss of my chimney. We have already sustained some rainwater damage to carpet and walls on day of storm. If possible I might make the trip in on Friday but would only do so if I could spend the night and leave out of New Orleans Saturday or Sunday. I would wan to meet in New Orleans instead of Baton Rouge as I am currently east of New Orleans. I do not want to deal with the traffic in an out on a daily basis like it was last Wednesday if I can avoid it. Believe me, that was not a pleasant trip!
Sounds like a good idea. Let's keep information coming and maybe this will be a productive triip.

Check the Jefferson Parish website www.jeffparish.net. There is a note there for Operation Blue Roof in which they tell you where you can get the roof covers for free. I don't know if it is only for Jefferson Parish residents or not.

If electricity is avialable at the church, what is the possibility of "camping out" at the church on Friday night? That is a possiblity. Also, a couple of us who live in Aligers should have power and could house people. Kevin Avery will be coming, so we will have access to Art & Blondell's house. If my house is in good enough shape we can use it, I know that Brad has power and I'm pretty sure he is coming also. No matter what, we can find accomodations. I would just pack planning on us staying overnight. What is the availability of gasoline in the area of Algiers? I don't have an answer to that question. BUT, we are going in on Thursday to scope things out. I will find out. Either way, we should plan to not have to fill up in the city. Also, if no Aligers gas stations are open, I would bet that Gretna has some open...since they are reopening for residents to come home. Lawrence has a connection, and we will have access to the Causeway with no problems. That should help us avoid a lot of traffic. Russell, if you want, I can very easily find a place for your to stay in Baton Rouge on Thursday night. That way you can ride with us. Otherwise, we can work out meeting you down there.

The Guthries have a chainsaw at their house, Toni told me today. She also said people could stay at her house if they can get in--call her on her cell at 504-220-2177. They have a big tree that broke through their roof, and they can't get to town to take care of it right now; so if anyone can help out with getting it cut up and a tarp on the area, I know they would appreciate it very much.

I will be leaving Houston to see my office in New Orleans with the flood insurance guy Saturday afternoon. I have a generator and chainsaw in my shed if anyone wants to get them on Friday. There's a lock , so you ll have to call or email to get the combination. Sorry I can't get there any earlier

Charlie is in Algiers working on our home and his parents and my parents homes. Our house has power so that anyone can stay there who needs a bed. There is food, gas etc as near as Avondale. Our phones are not up so you could call his parents, Refa and Charlie Hogue, at 393 1119, to try and find him. Don't forget the curfew. I think the national guard are serious about that.

I want to say thank-you to the Chainsaw Brigade. Doug called me last night and informed me that they were able to cut the tree from off my living room and tarp the roof and hole. They also started to remove the tree from the backyard but it was too big to finish. I was surprised to hear of how much they did do at our house. My only concern was the hole in the roof but you guys provided much more that what we expected. BIG THANK YOU! ;D God is continuing moment by moment to bless us during this difficult time. I long to see all of you and can't wait to see what Great things God has planned for BBC in helping to rebuild the WB!!!
